The Pathetic Anonymous New York Times Op-Ed

Earlier today the New York Times published an Op-Ed from an anonymous senior official in the Trump administration titled “I am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration”. The Op-Ed’s author states “I work for the president but like-minded colleagues and I have vowed to thwart parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations.” The Op-Ed itself reeks of self-aggrandizement and political posturing for some future payoff in the not too distant future. The entire piece is riddled with vague innuendos and obvious hypocrisies.

It is unclear what the author’s actual agenda is, but you can be sure that it's not what he is implying. He tells us that that he is “working diligently from within to frustrate parts of Trump’s agenda” without ever telling us which parts those are. He also tells us he is not from the “popular left” and he “very badly” wants to see this administration succeed without telling us which parts he wants to succeed. He tells us that Trump acts in a manner that is “detrimental to the health of our republic” without ever describing what that means. However, we can insinuate that the author does not mean the literal “health” of our republic (as in the physical health of our people), because he later goes on to espouse his support for right wing conservative ideology which seeks to kick Americans off insurance.

He and, allegedly, many of Trump’s appointees have hypocritically “vowed" to do what they can to "preserve our democratic institutions”, while never mentioning the stolen Supreme Court seat that Neil Gorsuch sits in or the bulldozing of norms that the GOP Senate is engaging in TODAY in their quest to sit Brett Kavanaugh. For some weird reason, those institutions don't bother him.

There is one passage which ends all credibility of the author.

Although he was elected as a Republican, the president shows little affinity for ideals long espoused by conservatives: free minds, free markets and free people. At best, he has invoked these ideals in scripted settings. At worst, he has attacked them outright.

This Senior White House Official is attempting to thwart Trump because after being elected as a “Republican” Trump “shows little affinity for conservative ideals.” Uh. What?

What are those conservative ideals? I would like to know. In a primary campaign with 15 candidates, Trump received the most primary votes in the history of the Republican Party. If anyone should be defining Republicanism, it should be the man who dominated the Republican primary and not some mysterious Senior White House official in an anonymous Op-Ed.

In one paragraph the author lambasts Trump’s treatment of the press and two paragraphs later he describes their coverage as “near-ceaseless negative coverage of the administration.” A paragraph after that he attempts to take personal credit for the parts of Trump’s agenda which he approves of and claims were achieved in spite of Trump. Namely, “deregulation, historic tax reform, a more robust military and more.” Sounds great, thanks for that. (I'm being sarcastic now)

The author celebrates the “unsung heroes” in the White House. These are the same unsung heroes that helped Republicans pass laws of the most draconian kind. The unsung heroes who he celebrates passed a historic tax cut that transferred massive amounts of wealth from the middle class to billionaires and millionaires.

The author hints about whispers within the cabinet of invoking the 25th amendment, a procedure to remove a president from office who is unable to fulfill presidential duties and then assures the reader not to worry, “Americans should know that there are adults in the room.”

The author tells us that Trump is an amoral maniac who needs to be thwarted.  Apparently, he thought it was a good idea to publish a document in the most well read newspaper in the country, which Trump will undoubtedly see, to tell everyone that Senior Levels of Trump’s administration are intentionally sabotaging his agenda. This seems like a REALLY smart idea. (I'm laying the sarcasm on pretty thick here).

One thing that is noticeably absent from the Senior White House Official's critique of Donald Trump, there is no mention of Trump’s obvious and blatant racism. Apparently, Trump’s bigotry has not reached a level of notoriety to this Senior White House Official that it deserves mentioning. The absence of this critique makes it clear that the author is another right wing conservative in the mold of John McCain and George W. Bush, who doesn’t overtly embrace the white nationalist base, but makes sure to wink at it to let them know that I’m on your team.

One cannot help but notice the timing of this Op-Ed and it’s nearness to the John McCain Trump “rebuke” funeral celebration. The media is certainly starved for more anti-Trump “resistance” Republicans and it looks like someone from inside the administration is looking to jump on that gravy train.

The author claims to be protecting America from the worst elements of Donald Trump and his administration. He’s completely full of shit, he’s protecting himself. This brave individual is withholding his name because, as the New York Times put it, his “job would be jeopardized by its disclosure”.

Oh no..... not his job!
