The GOP’s War on Middle Class Families

Additionally, the increase in taxes on the middle class aren’t
enough to pay for the tax cuts for billionaires and millionaires. The non-partisan JCT has affirmed
that the GOP tax bill will add $1 trillion to the deficit. But if you are
worried about the deficit, don’t be. The GOP has a plan for that too and it’s
even worse than their abhorrent tax cut bill.
Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) let us in on a little secret and
maybe a little too soon. After the GOP is finished with their tax scam, they
will get to work on cutting Social Security and Medicare. The increase in the deficit as result of the GOP tax bill is not a draw back of the plan, but an added weapon to the GOP's arsenal to wage war on middle class families. They will use the exploding deficit (which they manufactured) as an excuse to assault Social Security and Medicare
In an interview with two politico reporters on Wednesday, Senator
Rubio replied to a question about the deficits, “We
have to do two things. We have to generate economic growth which generates
revenue, while reducing spending. That will mean instituting structural changes
to Social Security and Medicare for the future. -- The driver of our debt is the structure of Social
Security and Medicare for future beneficiaries.”
And with that, the GOP Tax bill has just morphed into an
assault on your healthcare and retirement funds. The GOP war on middle class
families rages on.
Senator Rubio continued, “We still have time to responsibly structure those programs,”
he said of Social Security and Medicare, “in a way that doesn’t impact current
retirees or people about to retire, but in a way that would probably impact it
for me and people younger than me.”
Marco Rubio is 46 years old. When he retires from the Senate
he is going to slip right into a lobbying position just like 88% of other retiring
senators and collect an enormous pay check. He won’t have to depend on social
security for retirement. Additionally, he gets a taxpayer funded pension for his
time in the Senate which, interestingly enough, he isn’t advocating for that to
be cut.
If you are 46 years old and your income is between $30k and $50k a year. The Republican
party is doing everything in their power to make sure your taxes go up, that your personal retirement money is cut and that your medicare is underfunded. They are doing this so that Donald
Trump and billionaires like him can pay less in tax and that their heirs, like Ivanka Trump, can collect billions of dollars tax free.
I hope you are as outraged and disgusted by this as I am.
